Metzeler Karoo 4 is a next-generation adventure tyre aimed at riders who tackle both the open road and demanding off-road terrain. Building on the success of the Karoo 3, it offers better wet grip, more stable road handling, and significantly improved traction in loose terrain. Its paddle-style block pattern gives it real bite in sand and mud, while clever siping and carcass updates allow for confident road riding even in wet conditions.
Ideal For
Terrain & Conditions
Mixed adventure terrain: gravel, forest trails, fire roads, moderate mud, and tarmac sections. Ideal for wet UK green lanes.
Rider Types
Adventure riders who lean toward off-road fun but still want safety and comfort on tarmac.
Motorcycle Types
Adventure bikes from mid to large size: BMW R1250GS, KTM 890 Adventure, Yamaha Ténéré 700, Honda Africa Twin.
Performance
Strong traction in mud thanks to the open tread pattern, though deep clay can still clog it. Performs especially well in loamy or sandy mud.
One of the best gravel tyres in its category. Feels planted, predictable, and offers real braking traction and steering feedback.
Handles wet roots and loose rocky terrain confidently. Good flexibility in the casing helps it stay planted.
Surprisingly good for a knobbly tyre. Stable at high speeds, handles corners well on dry road. Some vibration and noise expected.
Performs admirably in the wet. Block design helps evacuate water and sipes increase bite on smooth tarmac.
Durability
Better than most 50/50 tyres off-road. The block pattern is aggressive enough for proper trails, and holds up well over repeated rides.
Longer-lasting than the Karoo 3. Compound resists chunking on road and wears evenly under adventure bike loads.
