Capra XR is a road-focused adventure tyre with just enough capability to keep things interesting off-road, as long as conditions are dry. It excels on gravel and light trails, and its strong road manners make it a solid pick for weekend ADV riders who want comfort and control both on and off the tarmac. For serious mud or extended off-road use, look elsewhere, but for general UK trail exploring, it's a tidy all-rounder.

Ideal For

Terrain & Conditions

Dry green lanes, compact gravel roads, forest tracks, and long road sections between trailheads.

Rider Types

Adventure riders who spend 60–70% of their time on-road but want the confidence to hit light trails and gravel when the opportunity arises. Ideal for those prioritising comfort, stability, and predictable handling over pure off-road aggression.

Motorcycle Types

Africa Twin, BMW R1250GS, KTM 890 Adventure, Yamaha Ténéré 700, Triumph Tiger 900, and similar mid-to-large ADV machines.

Performance

Mud

The tread pattern is too closely spaced for serious mud riding. In soft UK clay or deep ruts, it clogs quickly and fails to self-clean, limiting traction significantly. Best reserved for dry or mildly damp conditions.

Gravel

One of the tyre’s strengths. The stiff sidewalls and tread design give a stable, planted feel on dry gravel roads and fire trails, even at speed. Slight understeer on loose descents, but overall very predictable.

Slippery Surfaces

On wet grass or cambered roots, the Capra XR lacks the sharp-edge lugs needed for reliable bite. It can hold a line on level surfaces but will struggle on slopes or off-camber sections, especially when wet.

Road

Excellent stability and cornering performance on tarmac. Feels secure under braking and offers solid lean angles, especially on heavier bikes. A great choice for riders who need to chew motorway miles en route to the trails.

Wet Tarmac Grip

Performs surprisingly well in the rain thanks to its compound and contact patch. While it’s not a road sport tyre, the Capra XR remains composed and confidence-inspiring in typical UK wet road conditions.

Durability

Off-Road

Off-road lifespan is limited by the relatively soft compound and rounded tread design. Performance begins to drop after 2,000–2,500 miles if regularly used on dry trails or gravel. Knobs tend to round off before reaching legal tread depth.

Road

Lasts well under normal road use. Rear tyres on big ADV bikes typically hold up for 5,000–6,000 miles. Even wear pattern unless pushed aggressively on hot tarmac.
